Social Services

It is a helping hand in times of crisis. A compassionate voice in times of grief. UNRWA social workers support the most vulnerable Palestine refugees and their families.

Nearly 300 social workers across all our 5 fields of operation provide basic psychosocial support and protection interventions to families struggling with trauma, grief and loss. Social workers address the physical, psychological, social and economic burdens that Palestine refugees face on a daily basis.

Your Gift of Love can help ensure Palestine refugees traumatized by displacement, poverty, and conflict have the services they need to thrive.

Gift in Action

"I find happiness in every success story I have with my clients." For Najat, social work is more than a job – it is a calling. For the past 16 years, Najat's work as an UNRWA social worker in Jordan has helped change the lives of her Palestine refugees clients.

One such client, is Mohammed and his brothers. “Without UNRWA, my life and that of my three brothers would have been so different." exclaims Mohammed, 21. Since his parents’ divorce, he has been living in a house with his brothers. Najat regularly checks in on them, bringing them blankets when the temperature drops down in wintertime and assisting them with psychosocial counselling and support. “She is just like a mother to me,” says Mohammed, who is currently studying electrical engineering, “My life and my future are completely intertwined with UNRWA. If it wasn’t for the Agency, I would have never set my goals so high.”

Your Gift of Love supports social workers, like Najat, to bring support and services to vulnerable Palestine refugees so they can achieve their fullest potential.
