Health Assistance

For decades, Palestine refugees have suffered the trauma of forced displacement, poverty, conflict and violence. The toll this has taken on the well-being of the community is immense. To support both the physical and mental health of Palestine refugees, UNRWA launched the Community Mental Health Programme. The Programme aims to improve the mental health status and well-being of Palestine refugees through integrated, community-based psychosocial and mental health services. UNRWA health staff are trained to support patients who need additional mental health care particularly for depression, anxiety, stress and dealing with epilepsy or other strenuous diseases.

For almost 70 years, UNRWA has supported the health of Palestine refugees during all phases of their life. Your Gift of Health can help provide essential primary healthcare services, including mental health, to Palestine refugees. Ensuring that they receive the care they need to lead happy, healthy, and productive lives.

“Loneliness is hard. You cannot imagine how hard it is.” Abdallah, age 68, a Palestine refugee lives in al-Zahira, outside Yarmouk, Syria. After losing his home, business, and youngest son to the war in Syria, he fell into deep depression. His depression was compounded by the fact he was separated from his wife and daughter, who had fled to nearby Lebanon. He sought help at an UNRWA clinic. He was provided anti-depressants as a way to manage the symptoms of depression. “The doctors really helped me address my issues and are very supportive.” Today, he says he knows how to cope, despite missing his family dearly. “The hope of meeting my family one day strengthens my resilience and provides me with courage.”

Your Gift of Health ensures Palestine refugees, like Abdallah, receive the care they need to lead happy, healthy, and productive lives.
